FBI recovers personal emails from Hillary Clinton's private server

WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- The FBI has recovered former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's personal and work-related emails from the private computer server as the presidential candidate's scandal continues.

The possibility of Clinton's personal emails becoming public were increased by the FBI's success at retrieving the emails Clinton said had previously been deleted, Bloomberg reports. The FBI is investigating how classified information ended up on the private server.

The number of personal emails recovered by the FBI has not been disclosed. Agents were working on separating personal emails from work-related messages.

About half of the 60,000 emails Clinton exchanged during her tenure as state secretary were personal. The FBI investigation is expected to continue for several months.

Clinton previously said her use of a private email server was not the "best choice."

"At the end of the day, I am sorry that this has been confusing to people and has raised a lot of questions, but there are answers to all these questions," Clinton said. "And I take responsibility and it wasn't the best choice."

The email scandal has been a repeated topic of discussion as Clinton continues her race for the White House, where she is leading as the Democratic presidential nominee in polls.
