Kentucky inmates who used bed sheets to escape jail captured

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Law enforcement detained two men Tuesday after they used bed sheets to escape a downtown Louisville, Ky. jail.

Matthew Johnson, 29, and Christopher Cornelius, 37, escaped from the Community Correctional Center around 9 p.m. Monday after being assigned to interior work detail.

The men allegedly tied bed sheets together and jumped from the roof of the facility, falling to the ground from more than three stories up.

Cornelius was reportedly captured about 3 a.m. Tuesday. He was being evaluated for minor injuries.

Johnson was also apprehended early Tuesday morning.

Cornelius had initially been jailed July 11 on various charges including theft, trespassing and unlawful possession of drugs. Johnson was booked July 31 on charges including drug paraphernalia.
