WASHINGTON, June 11 (UPI) -- First lady Michelle Obama is the first in her position to take the reigns as guest-editor to an entire magazine.

Obama's July/August issue of More magazine will focus on the causes and influencers she cares about most. "This is truly the First Lady's issue," writes More editor in chief Lesley Seymour. "From the beginning, she said she didn't want the whole magazine to be about her."

In the issue, which is scheduled to hit newsstands June 23, Obama muses over the past six years living in the White House with her family. She also highlights her programs, including Let's Move, Joining Forces, Reach Higher and Let Girls Learn.

Seymour dubbed this special edition of More the "impact" issue.

In a sneak-peek letter from the guest-editor, Obama recollects the initial shock moving into the White House caused her family -- especially her two daughters Malia and Sasha. As a personal resolve, she said, "At that moment, I made a promise to myself -- and my girls -- that I would do everything possible to make this disruption to their lives worthwhile."

The first lady made headlines earlier this week when she delivered a commencement address to the students of Martin Luther King College Preparatory High School in honor of Hadiya Pendleton, a student killed buy gun violence two years prior.
