Jimmy Carter leaves Guyana amid health concerns

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, May 10 (UPI) -- Former President Jimmy Carter is returning to the United States from Guyana amid health concerns.

"President Carter was not feeling well and has departed Guyana to return to Atlanta today," reads a statement from his nonprofit organization. Carter is 90 years old.

He was in Guyana to observe the elections, which will take place on Monday. Workers from the Carter Center will remain in the country.

Carter travels frequently for his organization, and it's often to monitor elections. The Carter Center has now observed 100 overseas elections.
