NEW YORK, April 24 (UPI) -- The New York Police Department bomb squad gave the all clear Friday after the Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island were evacuated.
The U.S. Park Police received a phone threat around 11:30 a.m., directing them to the package in a visitors' locker, law enforcement officials told CNN.
A bomb-sniffing dog indicated something suspicious inside one of the lockers. The locker and all the other lockers at the facility were found to be clear of any explosives.
Officials said it's not uncommon for the dogs to react to a false positive.
The New York Police Department bomb squad was on hand to investigate, along with the NYPD harbor police and the National Park Service.
Tourists on the island were taken off the island by two waiting ferries. No one was injured.
