About 75 passengers were accomodated to another aircraft to travel to Hartford later in the afternoon. The plane descended about 28,000 feet in three minutes.

"It would feel like a roller coaster -- when you're coming over the top and you're going down," aviation analyst Mary Schiavo told CNN. "You know that these pilots knew they were in a very grave and very serious situation."

There were initial reports of cabin pressurization issues, but the Federal Aviation Administration and the airline would later state pressurization was not a problem.
