PHILADELPHIA, April 11 (UPI) -- A 21-year-old quadriplegic man with cerebral palsy was found abandoned in the woods in Philadelphia Friday night with a blanket and a Bible, police said.

Investigators said the man, who is non verbal, was found in Cobbs Creek Park under a blanket surrounded by trash with a Bible on his chest. A witness told police he found the man laying in the leaves about 9 p.m. with his wheelchair nearby.

Investigators said when the man didn't show up at school on Monday, his mother was contacted. The mother told the school she was in Maryland with her son and her boyfriend, police said. Investigators said the man might have been in the woods as long as a week.

"We know she left for Maryland on Monday to go see her boyfriend on a bus," Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker said, adding it was too early in the investigation to release more details.

The man, who is completely dependent on others for care, was taken to a local hospital, where he was in stable condition.
