RAHWAY, N.J., April 5 (UPI) -- Over a dozen worshipers were injured when the ceiling of a church in New Jersey collapsed during Easter services.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. as attendees sang a song at the Korean Union United Methodist Church in Rahway, N.J. Witnesses described a cracking sound that could be heard above.

"We saw the ceiling going down," a witness told WCBS. "Well not going down, but collapsing. But we didn't think it would actually fall."

The section of ceiling was around 30 square feet in size and made up of plaster and tin, according to officials.

Between 75 and 100 members of the Spanish-speaking Manantial de Vida Pentecostal congregation, which rents out the space, were inside the 65-year-old building at the time, officials said.

Thirteen people suffered minor injuries and one man sustained a severe but non-life-threatening injury after his head was cut open.

Authorities are investigating the incident.

"Nobody was killed, so, maybe being on Easter Sunday we got a little help from God on this one," Police Chief John Rodger told reporters.
