President Obama: The NCAA needs to take care of its student athletes

By Thor Benson

WASHINGTON, March 21 (UPI) -- During a newly released interview, President Obama said the NCAA needs to take care of its players.

"The students need to be taken better care of," the president said while speaking to Sam Stein of the Huffington Post. "Because, they are generating a lot of revenue here."

The president said colleges should make it so young people who get sports scholarships keep it no matter what. He also said they should have quality healthcare, and he said it angers him when coaches are making millions but students get kicked off the team for minor mistakes. He was hesitant to support any kind of financial compensation for student athletes.

The conversation about how the NCAA treats student athletes comes days after Last Week Tonight with John Oliver did an exposé on the topic.

The full President Obama interview features him talking about Netanyahu, Iran, pardoning power and more.
