WASHINGTON, March 17 (UPI) -- A United Airlines flight from Washington, D.C., to Denver turned back shortly after takeoff over an onboard "disturbance," the airline said Monday.

A United spokesman said the plane turned back to Dulles at around 10:40 p.m., after a passenger "failed to comply with crew instructions."

Authorities met the disruptive passenger at the airport, where he was detained and taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Officials were not specific about how the incident unfolded, though a witness told NBC News that the passenger tried to storm the cockpit. Video posted to YouTube shows the man being subdued by fellow passengers.
