PITTSBURGH, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Maxwell Morton, 16, took a "selfie" on the phone application Snapchat after he shot and killed Ryan Mangan, 16, according to police.
Morton was arrested at his home in Jeannette, near Pittsburgh, Pa., and subsequently charged with first-degree murder, homicide and possession of a firearm by a minor, The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.
Court papers said Morton shot Mangan once in the face and posed to take a picture with the body on Wednesday. A boy who received the picture via Snapchat took a screenshot and showed his mother who contacted the police.
Morton was arraigned Friday will be tried as an adult.
County District Attorney John Peck said a suspect posing for a picture with a dead victim was something he's never seen before, "but it was a key piece of evidence that led investigators to the defendant."
Morton is also accused of sending text messages that read, "Ryan was not the last one."
Morton confessed to the slaying after police found a handgun hidden underneath the basement steps of his home. He is being held without bail in the Westmoreland County juvenile detention center.
