WASHINGTON, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Some U.S. Senate office's emails and websites were down Wednesday evening in what officials are referring to as a "network outage."
"The Senate is currently experiencing a network outage including email and mobility and technicians are now working the issue," Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Frank Larkin said through a spokeswoman.
Larkin didn't reveal the cause of the outage, nor did he provide information about whether it was caused by a cyberattack.
A Senate staffer told CNN the email system stopped working around 5:20 p.m. local time.
Just before 6:30 a.m. Thursday, the sergeant at arms tweeted the systems had been restored.
#Senate network outage update (6AM): all systems are fully operational again. We apologize for inconvenience & thank you for your patience.
