Neighbor Collin Prochnow called authorities when he saw Christmas packages sitting unopened outside the front door.
Though police have yet to confirm the names of the dead, Prochnow told multiple media outlets that David Crowley, his wife, Kormel, and their 5-year-old daughter, Rani, lived in the home.
The official cause of death is gunshot wounds, Apple Valley Police Captain John Bermel told KAAL-TV.
"We will establish a timeline and try to piece together what happened in that house," he said.
