USDA announces 34,000-pound beef recall

WASHINGTON, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- About 34,000 pounds of beef is being recalled by a company for having plastic materials inside ground beef.

The ground beef was produced by J & G Foods, Inc. in Massachusetts on Dec. 23, but recalled after customer complaints.

The contaminated beef is in 1-pound, vacuum sealed packages labeled "Wegman's Organic 93% Lean/7% Fat Grass-Fed Ground Beef."

The establishment number "EST. 8466 is inside the USDA mark of inspection with the "use or freeze by" date of Jan. 15.

The recall is labeled as Class III which is "a situation where the use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences."
