Doctor killed, suspected shooter dead at Fort Bliss VA clinic

EL PASO, Texas, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A doctor was killed and the suspected shooter was found dead Tuesday at a Veterans Affairs clinic at Fort Bliss, Texas, law enforcement said.

The William Beaumont Army Medical Center and a VA clinic adjacent to the facility were put on lockdown Tuesday evening after reports of a suspected active shooter on the campus.

A doctor, whose name wasn't reported, was shot and killed.

U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke's spokesman, John Meza, said officials believe they found the shooter dead of suspected suicide.

The VA clinic was scheduled to be closed Wednesday as part of the investigation into the incident.

Fort Bliss officials, the FBI and the El Paso, Texas, Police Department were investigating.
