ASHLAND, N.H., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- A chain-reaction crash involving 50 to 100 cars blocked Interstate 93 in New Hampshire when a sudden snow squall Friday morning left drivers unable to see the road ahead.

Traffic was relatively heavy at the time with skiers headed to resorts in the White Mountains. The crash occurred near Ashland, on the border between the White Mountains and the Lake Winnipesaukee region.

State Police Lt. Jerome Maslan said a tractor-trailer involved in the crash began burning. He said investigators were still unsure how many people were injured or how seriously.

Maslan said snow squalls had been moving quickly through the area.

A dispatcher at the State Police Twin Mountain Barracks said no life-threatening injuries were reported.
