Suspect in custody after four stabbed on Amtrak train

Police are seeking a motive.

NILES, Mich., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- The conductor and three other people were stabbed on an Amtrak train Friday evening at it was stopped at a station in southwestern Michigan.

A man acting "odd," according to witnesses, attacked commuters when police officers happened to board the train. Officers used a stun gun on the 44-year-old suspect from Saginaw and took him into custody, said police.

Two of the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital. One was believed to be seriously injured.

The train was the Blue Water service en route from Chicago to Port Huron, and the stabbing occurred as the train was stopped at the station in Niles.

"The Niles City Police Department has a person in custody and the investigation into the incident is ongoing," said an Amtrak statement. "The Amtrak Police Department is assisting."

The identity of the suspect hasn't been released and police are seeking a motive.
