FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Police in South Florida searched Tuesday for an ex-con suspected of a carjacking spree that left a man dead and a woman in critical condition.
The FBI joined the hunt for Gregory B. "Pop" Moore, 35. He was described as extremely dangerous.
"We're looking for help from the public at this point," Special Agent Michael Leverock said. "He has shown that he's going to use violence. I can't emphasize enough how dangerous this person is."
Police said the woman, who was beaten as well as shot, was believed to be Moore's former girlfriend.

Helicopters searched the area from the sky, and police dogs were used on the ground. The crime spree and the manhunt brought traffic on I-95 in the Fort Lauderdale area to a standstill.
Moore, who was released in February after serving a sentence for armed robbery, was arrested Sunday in Lauderhill for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and released after posting bond. He was sentenced to the first of five prison terms in 1997.
Police said that at about 8 a.m. Tuesday Moore carjacked a Suzuki in Fort Lauderdale. The driver was taking her young son to school and Moore forced her to drive him some distance before ordering the mother and boy out of the car.
A short time later, Moore allegedly carjacked a Chevrolet Silverado in Dania Beach. He then drove to Hallandale Beach.
In Hallandale Beach, Moore allegedly shot a couple sitting in a parked Chevrolet. He riddled the car with bullets and beat the woman after pulling her from the car.
Police had not released the names of the couple late Tuesday. The man was pronounced dead at Memorial Regional Hospital, while the woman was in critical condition after surgery.
Just before 9 a.m., Moore allegedly carjacked a Mercedes-Benz. He was last seen running away after crashing the car.
At least five local schools were placed on lockdown and ramps were closed on I-95. Traffic on the highway was jammed for hours.
"It's obvious he's desperate," Leverock said. "This is a very, very dangerous person."
