Ex-New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, 82, hospitalized

Cuomo's heart condition is described as serious, but no details have been released.

NEW YORK, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo is being treated in a Manhattan hospital for a heart condition.

The 82-year-old's hospitalization was first reported by the New York Daily News, which said Cuomo spent the Thanksgiving holiday in the hospital.

Cuomo's family, including his son Andrew Cuomo, New York's current governor, are hoping he will be able to return home soon. The heart condition is described as serious, but no details have been released.

The New York Times reports that Mario Cuomo was admitted to the hospital a few days after Nov. 4, when he was last seen in public at Andrew Cuomo's re-election victory party.

Andrew Cuomo's office released the following on Mario Cuomo:

"He is in good spirits and thanks everyone for their support and best wishes."
