HOUSTON, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- A 28-year-old Houston woman was shot dead Tuesday while the infant she was baby-sitting lay nearby, uninjured, police said.
Ciara Brown was found dead on the bedroom floor of an apartment after police received reports of breaking glass and a commotion. Witnesses said they saw Brown's ex-husband, 45-year-old Anndrae McTravis Gilbert, breaking the apartment window and shooting into the residence before he left.
Gilbert later checked himself into West Houston Medical Center with a gunshot wound. He told health care workers he was shot at the same address where Brown was found dead.
Investigators charged Gilbert with murder for allegedly shooting Brown in the chest.
Police said the baby was crying in a bassinet on the floor next to Brown.
