Surveillance cameras captured the young man pocketing the dead woman's phone.

BOSTON, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- After a woman was killed by a commuter train in Boston right in front of him, a young man pocketed the victim's phone and left the scene the accident. All of it was caught on tape.

Friday, a day after the deadly collision, the man turned himself into police. Authorities are not releasing the Brockton native's name, but have confirmed that the 26-year-old is in custody and will likely be arraigned Monday on a larceny charge.

Surveillance cameras captured the young man -- who appeared to be in shock after he witnessed a woman struck by one of Boston's commuter rail trains, commonly known as The T -- placing his foot on top of the victim's dislodged phone, looking around to see if anyone was watching, pocketing it, and then walking away.

"It's reprehensible," said MBTA Transit Police spokesman Lieutenant Richard Sullivan. "Ninety-nine percent of all of the other people were concerned about what happened, running to the end of the train to see if they could help. This gentleman had a different idea."

MBTA officials announced the arrest on their blog, writing: "We would like to (once again) thank our riding public for tips we received relative to this investigation."
