RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Former Republican National Committee head Ed Gillespie says he has no plan to run for governor of Virginia despite losing his bid for a seat on the U.S. Senate to incumbent Mark Warner. Freshman Senator Warner eked out the win over Gillespie Tuesday by less than one percent and on Friday morning, the Republican conceded the race.

"I've called Mark Warner this morning to congratulate him on his reelection, to thank him for his public service for our Commonwealth," Gillespie said.
On Thursday, he told Politico that even though he trailed Warner, he has no intention to run for governor of Virginia, the seat for which will be open in 2017.
"There are a lot of people thinking about running for governor in 2017. And I'm not one of them," Gillespie said.
He also denied speculation he ran for the Senate seat just to build up his reputation for a future governor's race.
"Content must be provided. And so people have to provide content," Gillespie said. "And this is what people do in this click driven media environment. Instead of just reporting the facts as they are, you've got to make some stuff up that might get some clicks on your website."
When asked if he plans to run for the U.S. Senate again in the future, he said he has "one campaign in me."
