DSCC pulls funding from Mary Landrieu's runoff campaign

BATON ROUGE, La., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- The Democratic Senate Campaign Committee is pulling funding from Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu, as she prepares to face challenger Billy Cassidy in a December runoff.

All planned television and radio broadcasts in Louisiana's top five media markets have been canceled leading up to the runoff, totaling $1.6 million in pulled in advertising.

"Mary Landrieu is a proven runoff winner and we support her 100 percent," said DSCC spokesman Justin Barasky, reports Politico.

"We are going to make ongoing determinations on how best to invest in the race. We made the initial reservation when there were concerns that the rates would skyrocket but they have stabilized, giving us more flexibility to make week-to-week decisions."

Although she finished with the majority of the vote, having failed to reach the 50 percent threshhold nesseasry to win the general election, Landrieu must face Cassidy in the runoff. Landrieu is widely considered an underdog in that race, as there's no third candidate to the political right of Cassidy to siphon away votes.

The runoff will be held Dec. 6.
