Republicans took control of the Senate in a key election, giving them a majority in both chambers.

NEW YORK, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The Empire State Building glowed red Tuesday night after the Republicans took control of the Senate in the 2014 midterm elections.

Republicans so far have 52 seats in the Senate, giving them control of the upper chamber.

Earlier in the night, it was glowing red and blue with the pinnacle showing the number of seats each side acquired until one took control.
