NEW YORK, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Police in Long Island are investigating what they believe to be a grisly murder-suicide after a woman was found decapitated and her son jumped in front of a moving train.

Around 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nassau County Police were to called a Farmingdale home in the Long Island area, where they discovered a woman in her 60s decapitated outside an apartment complex, whom they quickly classified as a "victim of a homicide."

"I looked through my window and saw the body down there," neighbor Nick Gordon told the New York Post.

"I saw the lady laying right in front and her head was across the street, close to the corner. I thought 'holy [expletive]. There was blood all over the floor. You can see smears going down the stairs ... as if somebody were pulling a body."

The body was briefly disregarded by neighbors as a Halloween decoration, or prank, according to the Post.

Less than a half-hour later, police were contacted by transportation authorities when the victim's son committed suicide by jumping in front of a Long Island MTA train about a mile from where his mother was discovered.
