LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Former Secretary of State and potential presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made an appearance in Louisville Wednesday, to campaign for Senate hopeful Alison Lundergan Grimes.

"Alison is the right leader at the right time with the right plan to deliver for Kentucky's hard-working families," declared Clinton at the Kentucky International Convention Center.

Grimes, who proudly classified herself as a "Clinton Democrat," introduced the former first lady and senator from New York as "a woman who has known me since I was literally 14 years old."

Clinton framed her appearance around the Affordable Care Act, which Grimes' opponent, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, has also made a focal point of the election.

"Kynect is about more than a website," Clinton said, describing the Kentucky state healthcare marketplace created by the ACA.

"It has helped more than half a million Kentuckians get good, quality affordable health care."

During Monday's debate, McConnell reiterated his commitment to attempting to repeal the ACA, but said the Kentucky's online marketplace was doing well.

"You cannot have it both ways," counters Clinton.

"It's simple math. If you repeal the federal law, there is no more federal money for subsidies for Kentucky families. There is no more money for Medicaid expansion, and think about ... the forty eight thousand young people in Kentucky who will be thrown off their parents' insurance plans."
