HARDWICK, Vt., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Vermont State Police on Tuesday arrested Melissa Robitille and her boyfriend, Walter Richter III -- both of Hardwick -- on suspicion of second degree murder.

Investigators now say 13-year-old Isaac Robitille was killed when Melissa Robitille and Richter put alcohol in Issac Robitille's IV.

The teen was born with significant medical conditions, including multiple physical handicaps that required the assistance of caretakers, feeding tubes and IVs to keep him alive, police said.

Robitille called the police in August after finding her son dead.

The state police waited to charge the pair until after the teen's autopsy and toxicology was complete.

The toxicology report found that Issac's blood alcohol content was 0.146 percent, police said. The medical examiner ruled that alcohol was a contributing factor in the teen's death and the cause was homicide.

Both Robitlle and Richter were jailed Tuesday evening at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury, according to the Corrections Department.
