CHICAGO, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Late Tuesday night, a standoff ended with a man from Indiana who police say shot a Chicago Police Captain.

According to Chicago Police, the 58-year-old captain was shot when he tried to take a man into custody who investigators said shot three people in Indianapolis last weekend.

The captain -- a 30 year veteran with the department -- was shot in the shoulder and has a graze wound to the head. He is expected to survive, according to police and hospital official officials.

Authorities in Indianapolis identified the alleged shooter as Daniel P. Brown. Chicago Police were asked to assist in the arrest when Brown was traced to his sister's apartment in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago.

Indianapolis police said Brown shot his fiancee's friend on Saturday when she tried to stop a domestic dispute while they were riding in the same car.

After fleeing the scene in his car, authorities said Brown shot two more people at different locations.

In a statement, Indianapolis police said, "the suspect and victims know each other, and this was not a random act."

Brown's sister is being questioned by police.
