PIERRE, S.D., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Harvard professor and political activist Larry Lessig is throwing the power -- and coffers -- of his crowd-sourced Mayday PAC into the otherwise uneventful South Dakota senate race.
The anti-corruption super PAC will run ads on behalf of Democrat Rick Weiland, emphasizing minimum wage, closing corporate loopholes and investing in education.

Weiland's campaign against former Republican Governor Mike Rounds was initially considered uncompetitive until recent polling showed the mainstream frontrunners in the four-way senate race only seven percentage points apart, with 35 percent of voters favoring Rounds versus 28 percent who prefer Weiland.
The ads began airing in South Dakota on Tuesday morning.
