BLOOMING GROVE, Pa., Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Two Pennsylvania state troopers were shot late Friday at a barracks in Blooming Grove, Pa. One died and the other was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
The incident happened around 10:50 p.m. ET as the two troopers were changing shifts at the barracks off I-84 in Pike County.
As of Saturday morning, state police were interviewing a person of interest — Jeffrey Hudak — after a massive manhunt involving law enforcement from Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Hudak is not in custody, nor has he been charged with a crime.
"It's very emotional for all of us," Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said. "But we're also focused on our investigation. I'm sure this is going to be a very difficult time for them as it is for all of as when we're done working to get this terrible crime solved."
The names of the troopers who were shot in the incident weren't reported.
The injured trooper was recovering from surgery at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
