FERGUSON, Mo., Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Protesters attempted to block a highway near Ferguson, Mo., Wednesday afternoon, the day after they demanded major change following the shooting of Michael Brown.

The demonstrators called for a special prosecutor to replace St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch in the case into the August 9 shooting that touched off weeks of protests and flared divisions along racial lines.

McCullouch, they say, has too many connections to area police to be trusted with the case, which involved the death of an unarmed teen at the hands of Ferguson Police Officer Dan Wilson.

Between 50 and 100 people gathered at near Interstate 70 near Ferguston around 3 p.m. Wednesday. Police lined the highway, and made several arrests, but no shutdown had yet occurred.

The shutdown was planned for 4:30 p.m. C.D.T.

On Tuesday night, at the first Ferguson City Council meeting since the shooting and exactly a month later, protesters called for changes in the police department and court system.
