CAMDEN, Ala., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- The father of five children, who have been missing for 6 days, is now facing charges. This after he led authorities to their bodies outside of Camden, Alabama.

Sheriff Earnest I. Evans of Wilcox County, Ala., said that law enforcement had recovered the bodies of the children--ages 1 to 8 years old--in rural area near Camden, outside of Montgomery. The cause of their deaths is not yet known.

The sheriff's department in Lexington County, S.C, where the children were reported missing on Sept. 3 by their mother said their father is 32-year-old Timothy Jones Jr. The spokesman for the sheriff's department said Jones will be charged with unlawful neglect of a child by a legal custodian, though initial charges are expected to be filed.

Sheriff Evans said investigators started an intense search early Tuesday morning after Jones was stopped by officials in Mississippi at a vehicle checkpoint. He was arrested at that stop because authorities said he appeared to be under the influence. They also said there was a chemical smell coming from the vehicle. Evans said he believes Jones was using meth and synthetic marijuana.

The children weren't with Jones at the time of the stop, but an investigator was called over after deputies saw bleach, muriatic acid, blood and body fluids inside the man's Cadillac Escalade.

Mississippi authorities transported Jones to Alabama, where he then led Alabama investigators to the location of the bodies of his children.

Jones is currently being held in Smith Co., Miss., where he is waiting to be extradited to South Carolina.
