CLEVELAND, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Four students from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland were killed in the crash of a small plane near a suburban airport.

William Felten, 20, of Saginaw, Mich., who received his pilot's license last year, was flying the plane, a Cessna 172R. His passengers were identified as Lucas Marcelli, 20, Massillon, Ohio; Abraham Pishevar, 18, of Rockville, Md.; and John Hill, 18, St. Simons, Ga.

The Ohio State Patrol said that Felten had rented the plane, owned by a licensed flight instructor, for four hours Monday. The group took off from Cuyahoga County Airport in Willoughby Hills at about 10 p.m.

Investigators said Felten apparently tried to return to the airport because of engine trouble immediately after takeoff. The plane crashed and burned with the students trapped inside.

Case Western President Barbara Snyder said students would be able to talk to grief counselors Tuesday.
