WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Divers found the body of Brady Morton Wednesday afternoon, three days after he disappeared during an annual Michigan river float.
The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department said the dive team located the body in 26 feet of water about 45 yards from shore in the St. Clair River using an underwater camera attached to a water sled.
Morton went missing during the annual Port Huron Float Down, an annual summer event in which thousands of revelers ride down the St. Clair river using various inflatable rafts, tubes and other floating devices.
He was reported missing around 4 p.m. by his friends who said he decided to leave the group of about 40 people and go swimming. According to officials, his friends said he never came back.
The St. Clair County medical examiner has scheduled Morton's autopsy for Friday.
Port Huron Police Corp. Jason Burna described the unsanctioned event as one that involved 2,500 to 3,000 people, many of whom would get "highly intoxicated, getting into fights."
Morton was 19.
