Steve King: Ferguson protesters all share a 'continental origin'

Iowa Republican also tells Missouri blacks to "straighten up and fly right."

WASHINGTON, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King says racial profiling isn't a concern at the protests in Ferguson, Mo., as the protesters all share a single "continental origin."

Appearing on Newsmax TV Wednesday, King was asked by host J.D. Hayworth to speak to the concerns of the Congressional Black Caucus about the potential for racial profiling as authorities police the protests surrounding the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown at the hands of an officer. King said he was unconcerned.

"I've seen the video," King began.

"It looks to me like you don't need to bother with that particular factor because they all appear to be of a single, you know, of a single origin, I should say, a continental origin might be the way to phrase that."

Later in the interview, King alluded to a tweet pleading for peaceful protests in place of rioting, summarizing it by saying "[he] essentially said straighten up and fly right."

"I thought that was a good message. I was glad to see it."
