LEAGUE CITY, Texas, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Four members of a family were killed when their car was hit by a Dodge Durango involved in a 100-mph chase with police outside Houston.

Police in Dickinson said the chase began there Sunday at about 8:20 p.m., when an officer tried to pull over the Durango because the driver did not have the headlights on and was operating the SUV erratically. It ended a few minutes later in nearby League City, when the Durango struck a Honda Accord and then slammed into a light pole.

"He was going so fast my guy couldn't keep up," Dickinson Police Capt. J. Jaekel told the Galveston Daily News.

Reagan Pena, a spokesman for League City police, said the collision killed four people in the Accord, a 15-year-old boy, his parents and an uncle. The 23-year-old driver of the Durango and his cousin, both League City residents, also died.

Homes and businesses in the area lost power because of the crash.
