SACRAMENTO, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- California Gov. Jerry Brown reversed parole for inmate Bruce Davis, a former associate of Charles Manson.

In 1972, Davis was convicted of first-degree murder for the deaths of Gary Hinman and Donald "Shorty" Shea and sentenced to life in prison.

The Carolina Parole Board recommended in March that Davis be released from prison for good behavior — the third time since his imprisonment.

Brown overturned that decision Friday.

"I find the evidence shows that he currently poses an unreasonable danger to society if released from prison," he said. "Therefore, I reverse the decision to parole Davis."
