BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich., Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Authorities in Michigan are searching for an 18-year-old girl they fear was abducted after she was approached by a gun-wielding stranger Thursday night.
Police believe 18-year-old Hayley Turner may have been abducted when she was returning to her Bedford Township home from a nearby video rental store.
According to Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone, Turner was on the phone with a friend when she said she saw a man lying in a ditch on the side of the road.
"Seconds later, Hayley told her friend he has a gun and the phone was disconnected," Malone.
The friend contacted Turner's father, who immediately drove to the scene to find his daughter's car still running without the the teen inside.
Local sheriffs teamed up with the FBI to search a park near the scene and question nearby residents.
On Friday morning, one resident reported seeing a man and a woman matching Turner's description walking near the local VFW.
"The male was described as a white male, 18-24 years old, wearing brown khaki shorts and a blue shirt. The female was described as 18-24 with a red shirt, long black tight-fitting pants and shoulder-length dark hair. This is very similar to Hayley's description and what she was last seen wearing."
