MENDOTA HEIGHTS , Minn., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- A Minnesota man who allegedly killed Mendota Heights Police Officer Scott Patrick is still recovering at Regions Hospital.
Criminal charges against Brian Fitch are still pending, but it sounds likely that prosecutors from Dakota County and Ramsey County will charge him with murder.
Patrick, 47, was killed after pulling Fitch over during a traffic stop. The 39-year-old suspect allegedly opened fire on police officers and he was also hit several times.
After being taken into custody and brought to the hospital, Fitch told the St. Paul police officer watching him at the hospital, "Just to let you know, I hate cops and I'm guilty," KMPS reported.
Six Minnesota officers were involved in bringing Fitch to justice.
"He was a very dedicated police officer and a family man who absolutely adored his children," Mendota Heights Police Chief Mike Aschenbrener said, the Pioneer Press reported. "It's going to be a very trying time for them. He cared deeply about the city of Mendota Heights and it's going to be a very tough time for the Mendota Heights Police Department."
Patrick leaves behind a wife and two teenage daughters.
