CHUBBUCK, Idaho, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- A 5-year-old girl in Idaho is dead after police say another 5-year-old accidentally shot her at the house she was visiting Wednesday afternoon.
Noelle Aston Shawver was playing with another child just prior to 3 p.m. on July 30, while her parents and other adults were in another room. The child she was playing with was somehow able access a gun and accidentally fired it, hitting Shawver.
Police and EMTs were called to the Chubbuck, Idaho, home and Shawver was transported to Portneuf Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Local authorities say because the incident is part of an ongoing investigation, they cannot yet release any additional information including what type of firearm was used or how the other child was able to obtain the deadly weapon.
"We are not releasing any of that," Chubbuck Police Department Lt. Bill Guiberson told the Idaho State Journal. "Obviously that's part of the investigation."
