VENICE, Fla., July 28 (UPI) -- A father walking with his daughter on the beach in Florida was killed Sunday afternoon when a small plane crashed landed into the vacationing pair.
Georgia resident Ommy Irizarry and his 9-year-old daughter Oceana were visiting Caspersen Beach when, just prior to 3 p.m., pilot Paul Kokomoor sent out a distress signal because his single-engine 1972 Piper Cherokee lost power.
According to an official statement from the Federal Aviation Administration, Kokomoor then attempted to land the craft striking Ommy and Oceana.
"The dad looked very bad," witness Zack Arceneaux told WCVB. "They were performing CPR on him. He had blood on his face. It looked like he wasn't breathing at all."
Irizarry, 36, was declared dead at the scene and Oceana was airlifted to a nearby hospital where she is in critical condition. Kokomoor and his 60-year-old passenger suffered no injuries.
"I saw the mother also, looked to be in some sort of distress... to see that happen to her family. Just trying to go to the beach with your family... you never know."
The Irizarrys where vacationing to celebrate their ninth wedding anniversary on Saturday. Just hours before dying, Ommy wrote a Facebook post about how much he loved his wife, saying he couldn't wait for their next hundred years together.
