25,000 baby montiors sold at Amazon and Babies 'R' Us recalled for strangulation risk

NORWOOD, Mass., July 28 (UPI) -- Tens of thousands of high-end baby monitors made by Mayborn USA have been recalled for a strangulation risk associated with their power cords.

Massachusetts-based Mayborn USA has recalled two models of the Tommee Tippee Monitor with Movement Sensor Pad because children could conceivably pull the sensor pad's cord into their crib and wrap it around their necks.

Roughly 25,000 of the recalled devices were sold in the United States since September 2011, primarily through Amazon.com and Babies 'R' Us if purchased new. The three-part device is comprised of a monitoring device, a separate audio/video transmitter and movement sensor pad meant to fit under the baby's crib. The pad connects to the the AV transmitter via a 10-inch cord the manufacturer fears poses a strangulation risk to grabby children.

The recalled devices are labeled model numbers 1082S and 1094S on the underside of the AV transmitter.

Although no injuries have been reported, Mayborn USA will provide consumers affected by the recall with a free cord cover kit that "includes rigid protective cord covers through which the sensor pad cords can be threaded, a permanent electric cord warning label about the strangulation risk, as well as set-up instructions."
