Montana judge censured for 30-day sentence for rape

HELENA, Mont., July 22 (UPI) -- The Montana Supreme Court censured a judge Tuesday for giving a teacher who had sex with a 14-year-old student a 30-day sentence.

Judge G. Todd Baugh has also been suspended for 30 days for the lenient sentence and for suggesting the victim was partly to blame for her rape because she was "older than her chronological age." She took her own life before the case came to trial.

Stacey Rambold, the teacher, was more than 30 years older than his student at Billings High School. The high court has already granted the state's appeal of Baugh's sentence and a new hearing is scheduled for September.

Baugh refused to comment Tuesday.
