LOS ANGELES, July 14 (UPI) -- A federal officer fired his gun while attempting to break up a fight during a pro-Israel demonstration outside the federal building in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Tensions escalated after pro-Palestinian demonstrators showed up to protest the organized pro-Israel peace rally.

A truck displaying the Palestinian flag drove by pro-Israel demonstrators, who proceeded to snatch the flag away. A fight broke out and the truck's driver and passengers got out to retrieve the flag, prompting a federal officer to discharge his weapon in an attempt to control the incident.

No one was struck by the bullet, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is working with the FBI to investigate the incident.

One witness recorded the end of the fight on her cellphone, showing the pro-Palestine demonstrators fleeing as the crowd attacks their truck.

Some media outlets are reporting that the officer who discharged his weapon was a homeland security official.
