BANGOR, Maine, June 27 (UPI) -- A judge told a Bangor, Maine, woman she was guilty of "monstrous savagery" as he sentenced her to 50 years for killing her husband in the bathtub.

Roxanne Jeskey, 51, apologized to the family of her husband, Richard Jeskey. His relatives had asked the judge for a life sentence, describing her as "cruel."

"One thing I wish most is that all would be well with the Jeskey family with no sorrow," Roxanne Jeskey said. "I will forever be sorry for my husband's death."

Superior Court Justice E. Allen Hunter found Roxanne guilty in January after a non-jury trial. During sentencing, he described the injuries witnesses said she inflicted on her husband in 2011, using a razor, rods from towel holders and a plastic baseball bat on various parts of his body, including his genitals, and also strangling him.

"Any one of these injuries standing alone manifests a depraved indifference to the value of human life," Hunter said. "Taken together, they reflect a monstrous savagery and cruelty that defies comprehension."

Hunter acknowledged that Roxanne underwent brain surgery 10 years ago and said he did not know how to factor that into her sentence.
