Scared onlooker: "He is gorgeous."

CAPE MAY, N.J., June 23 (UPI) -- A group of fisherman in New Jersey filmed a great white shark's successful attempt to prey on their boat, a victimless attack that yielded a full chum bucket for the hungry fish.

The footage shows a 16-foot-long great white shark circling a 35-foot vessel off the coast of Cape May around 5 p.m. Saturday.

The fisherman and crew watched in awe as the shark sized up their fishing boat and made off with their bait.

"He is gorgeous," observes one increasingly scared onlooker in the video.

"Watch out. He could come out. Get back. Get back. You guys are nuts. Don't get close. It will come up. It will come after us."

The shark did indeed surface, gnashing its teeth and seemingly posing for the camera.

The encounter comes days after the NOAA released a study that shows conservation efforts have led to a boom in the great white population off the Atlantic coasts of the United States and Canada.
