Man dead after shooting himself near 9/11 Pentagon memorial at Arlington Cemetery

The incident occurred near the site of the remains of the Sept. 11 attacks on the Pentagon.

ARLINGTON, Va., June 20 (UPI) -- A man who shot himself at Arlington National Cemetery Friday morning has died, authorities confirmed.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the Pentagon Memorial, which houses the final resting place for the remains of the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks on the Pentagon.

"Although we have not completely ruled it out in order to conduct a complete and thorough investigation, we do not suspect foul play at this point in the investigation," Army Criminal Investigation Command spokesman Chris Grey said in a statement.

Officials positively identified the man and confirmed that he was not an active-duty service member. Further information is being withheld until a next of kin has been notified. The incident was isolated and there is no threat to public safety.
