NEWARK, N.J., June 20 (UPI) -- A man flying from Guatemala to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey had 118 cocaine chips hidden in cookies in his luggage, Customs officials say.

Anthony Bucci, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said Thursday the chips added up to about 3 pounds of cocaine worth more than $50,000. Mauricio Isidro Rivera Hernandez was arrested earlier this month at the airport.

Hernandez had packed the cookies into all three pieces of luggage he checked for the flight, Bucci said.

In recent months, agents in the New York area have found 18 pounds of cocaine hidden in custard mix and 7 in frozen meat. Earlier this month, 5 pounds were discovered hidden in the handling bars of suitcases.
