WASHINGTON, June 19 (UPI) -- Anti-same-sex marriage protesters flocked to Washington today to hear like-minded speakers and express their personal opposition to LGBT rights.

Organized by the conservative National Organization for Marriage, the March for Marriage featured speeches by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Pa. Senator Rich Santorum.

"When we hear time and time again from some in the media that the fight to protect marriage is over, we are here today to say no," NOM President Brian Brown said to the roughly 2,000 supporters in attendance. "We are here to say that no matter the circumstances, no matter how difficult it may be, we will stand in and out of season for the truth of marriage."

Despite the low turnout, tensions still ran high, with one NOM supporter promising "violence" if same-sex marriage became the law of the land.

"Marriage is under attack and I think that homosexual marriage is an oxymoron and an abomination," the anonymous attendee lamented to Media Matters. "It's unfathomable."

When asked what he thought the consequence of nationwide marriage equality would be, the attendee had just one word: "Violence."

The interviewer attempted to ease the man off his incendiary answer, suggesting he may have meant violence from pro-equality activists -- but the NOM supporter only doubled-down on his threat.

"The state is saying my marriage would be equivalent to what homosexuals do and what homosexual relationships are, and it just can't be tolerated."
