BATON ROUGE, La., June 16 (UPI) -- Television's controversial Duck Dynasty clan could soon have another connection in Congress.

Zach Snyder, a 36-year-old Republican from Calhoun, La., announced Monday that he's running for Louisiana's 5th District. He also happens to be the nephew of A&E reality star Phil Robertson, who has garnered outrage for his remarks about African-Americans and gay people.

"I want to help restore America to what she once was -- a nation that builds freedom and prosperity on the anchor of God," Dasher told the Shreveport Times.

Dasher, a pharmaceutical representative, describes himself on Twitter as a "Christian," "conservative businessman" and "father."

He's running for the seat to be vacated by Rep. Vance McAllister, the married Republican caught kissing a married female staffer back in April. McAllister was also the congressman who invited Dynasty star Willie Robertson to this year's State of the Union address.

Dasher said he has his famous uncle's support.
